CareerDean matches top college students to companies in Silicon Valley. But connecting students to tech companies is not all we do. We surround our students with great resources that will help them be as attractive as possible to companies; we introduce them to potential mentors, hold seminars with successful professionals, help students with their resumés, and much more. We want our students to have job offers from not just one or two companies, but ten or twenty. CareerDean's network is extensive and if you get accepted into CareerDean, yours will be too.
What will CareerDean do for you?
Get discovered by recruiters
Having relationships with company insiders increases your chances of getting a job. If you are accepted into CareerDean, we will introduce you to recruiters from companies you want to work for. Better yet, we’ll be working behind the scenes and putting your name out there to as many recruiters as we can.
Want to know what it is like working for a big tech company like Google or Facebook? How about a small start-up where you could talk directly with the CEO? What better way than meeting people who work there! CareerDean’s network is extensive; we can introduce you to people you’d like to meet.
Provide career counseling
Need help writing your resumé or deciding which companies to apply to? CareerDean is able to answer all of your career-related questions. We are fully invested in your career because our success depends on your success.
Students on Careerdean will have the opportunity to receive advice from and/or network with amazing professionals in Silicon Valley. Professionals who have already agreed to help our students include VPs from tech companies, senior university recruiters from tech giants, and even the former president of Google Enterprise.
For the application cycle ending on November 1st, we are looking for sophomores, juniors, and seniors who are interested in getting a job (or internship) at a tech company in Silicon Valley. We encourage developers and non-developers (those interested in sales, marketing, business, design, etc.) to apply. Tech companies need all types of talented people.
Our applicants must have an extremely ambitious mindset. You must want to maximize your full potential and be willing to do whatever it takes to get your dream job. We’ll be doing everything we can to help you, but we can only go so far if you are not just as committed. Unfortunately we are only accepting students from California. However, we plan to expand in the near future.
What´s the application process like?
Convince us that you will benefit from being part of CareerDean by having an awesome resumé.
If we see potential, we will invite you for an interview with us. Interviews will be conducted via in-person, Skype, or Google Hangout.
3. CareerDean will get to work
If accepted into our program, we will immediately start working on getting you your dream job (or internship). We’ll give you career advice, introduce you to professionals, talk to recruiters on your behalf, and much more.
Perhaps the best part of CareerDean is that it is free for students. You don’t have to pay a penny for the career counseling, mentorship, or any of the introductions. CareerDean’s revenue comes from sponsors and companies who want to hire students from our program.
Networking is a fundamental part of getting a great job. We want to make networking for students easy and comfortable.
Can you give me advice on applying successfully?
Make sure to have the following in the resumé you submit to us:
- Contact information
- Previous work experiences
- Schools attended
- College GPA and major
- Links to your LinkedIn, Github, online portfolio, or any other websites you think are relevant
- Any other information that will demonstrate to us why you are the perfect candidate
If we like your resumé, we will set up an interview via in-person, Skype or Google Hangout. Further instructions for the interview will be sent if you get past the initial application stage.
Also, it is extremely important that you apply as soon as possible because we do rolling admissions. After you submit your application, you will get a response from us within 2-3 days.
Do you have a minimum GPA requirement?
Although we don’t have a minimum GPA requirement, GPA is one of the factors we use to determine whether you are a good fit for CareerDean.
If I already have a job offer, should I apply?
Yes, getting more offers never hurts. In fact, getting more offers gives you leverage to negotiate your salary among other things. CareerDean is not only about getting you a job, but getting you the best possible job.
Accepted students will need to set up an initial meeting with the CareerDean team the week of November 4th. In other words, we will get started right away.
Where will you help me find a job?
In Silicon Valley. Here is where we have the most connections. We understand that plans may always change, but students on CareerDean should strive towards getting a job at a tech company in Silicon Valley.
Will I get an internship or a full-time job?
It depends. If you are a sophomore or junior, we’ll help you land an awesome internship. Many tech companies offer full-time positions after an internship. If you are a senior, we’ll help you find a full-time job.
How is the program structured?
You can see us as your personal agent or career counselor. This is not a class so we don’t require you to devote a set number of hours per week. If you get accepted, you will have an initial meeting the CareerDean team. We will discuss your career goals and strategize a way to reach them.
We will be helping you with your resumé, your online portfolio, your cover letter, and any other career-related assistance you need. We will also introduce you to recruiters and professionals from tech companies that you should talk to.
Behind the scenes, CareerDean will be speaking with various companies to see who might be interested in hiring you. With CareerDean, we imagine you’ll have more than a handful of companies who would want to hire you. Although there is no set schedule, we expect you to do what we ask of you. If we set up a meeting with a recruiter, we expect you to go to that. If we ask you to change some aspects of your resumé, we expect you to do that as soon as possible. Both sides must work hard to achieve their goals.
How does ‘introducing’ me to recruiters or professionals help me land a job?
We believe that a person’s professional network is extremely important. Companies love hiring people who they already have a relationship with; CareerDean will help you build these professional relationships. In addition, you are more likely to get hired if CareerDean is vouching for you.
When does the program end?
Our goal is to help our students find a great full-time job right out of college. We imagine that you wouldn’t really need us as much after that.
With that said, our program never really ‘ends.’ Once you are a part of CareerDean, you are always part of CareerDean. You will always be in our network and you can reach out to us at any time. Who knows? Maybe you can mentor the future students on CareerDean!
Can you guarantee me a job?
We can't guarantee it, only because we can't be certain you'll do your part. If you follow our advice, and utilize the resources we give you, we imagine it'll be pretty hard not to get a job.
Only us. We will never give out any personal information of our applicants without their consent.
I have more questions. Who should I ask?
